Water was receding, good faith was rising.
As we always see… when disaster hits, people put their own personal issues and convictions aside and help each other.
Sad to say, not all of our adventures are of happiness and food. Some of you may have heard in the news, Quebec has had an influx of snow melt, rain and flooding in the past few weeks. Many areas are under water. Not just homes, but expansive swaths of farm land that have turned into lakes. One of those areas is right here in Laval, QC, Canada. As of today, there are 2,733 flooded residences in Quebec and forced the evacuation of 1,940 people in 171 municipalities. Luckily, Aniko’s house is dry and safe, but not so far from where she lives others are not so lucky…. including, friends of the family. They already had to sandbag around their home and are on a 24/7 shift pumping water out of their basement every few hours. We missed on helping them sandbag, but Aniko has another gift she can help with… food.
So today, during our lunch break we rolled over to this one family and brought them soup, lasagna, salad and cookies. We’ll see if the parents share it with the kids ;-) It’s not much, but it will be one less thing they need to worry about tonight as they continue their struggle in keeping their home dry.
As we rolled over to deliver the food, we saw many street closures, detours, police, fire department, local municipality and military (1700+ personnel have been deployed to QC). Below you will find a few pictures from our short trip.
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
